Visual Language of Painting & Drawing

This painting and drawing course covers fundamental skills to allow you the freedom to develop your own artwork making process, suitable for both beginners and more experienced students. In this 6 week course we will focus on developing drawing skills as well as painting, colour mixing and finding your own style, in an inspiring studio environment to foster and share creative ideas. Each week will focus on different themes and techniques, using a variety of mediums for the ultimate creative experience. All your art materials for this course are provided, including canvases. paint, ink, drawing materials and artists paper. Read Unconscious Mark Making Develop freedom of expression in your own work through a series of exercises and meditations, you will be challenged to explore unconscious marks and link them to the visual language of primal mores. Media: Oil pastel and Coloured Ink 2. Observational Drawing Tricks Still life study in pencil or charcoal . Learn to render accurately using traditional techniques and some observational drawing hacks. Be amazed that everyone can draw. 3. Colour Mixing Made Simple Improve colour understanding and mixing and your enjoyment of painting will increase in leaps and bounds. Incorporating some fun exercises you will learn the quickest way to mix the exact colours you want from base primary colours. Media: Pastel, Coloured Pencil, Watercolour and Acrylic Paint 4. Pop Art Tone Painting A fun class inspired by Andy Warhol, to learn to see the world in a series of tones. Bring along 1 to 4 contrasting portrait photos to break down by posterisation. Weather permitting, includes a short outdoor sketching exercise. Media: Acrylic Paint on canvas 5. Plein Air Seaside Drawing Be inspired by the stunning waterfront studio surroundings. This lesson incorporates an excursion to the outdoors to draw what excites you visually. Some short preliminary exercises will assist you to focus and analyse your subject. Media: Pencil and pastels 6. Finding My Style Where is your creativity leading you? This lesson will guide you to understand your artwork production, subject interests and natural expression.
